John Robert Swart graduated from Hope College in 1941; his wife, Morrell Webber, graduated from Hope in 1942. In 1948 the Swarts were in the first group of Reformed Church in America missionaries to work in Africa. They served in the Sudan, Ethiopia, and Kenya.
